SnowFROC 2016 was a regional Information Security conference put on by the local OWASP chapter. It featured several presentations on Application Security as well as a ‘Security 101’ hands-on track that allowed the students to use Metasploit to work through a penetration scenario on their own laptops using a custom environment within a Docker container. (Big thanks to Brad Woodward for putting that together, & guiding everyone through it!)
Other highlights included Bo Pearce speaking on building a Raspberry Pi-based hack box, & a collection of several Information Security notables (including Tom Brennan and Joe Bonnell) who took questions from the audience & provided their perspectives on a number of current and anticipated challenges. The Q&A session turned out to be one of the best parts of the conference, as it was great to see how several of their answers complemented others’ insights – it allowed those of us in the audience to get a better, more-complete idea of what we’re up against.
While I was unsure of what to expect when I signed up, I found SnowFROC to be one of the better conferences that I’ve attended lately, & I find that I’m now looking forward to SnowFROC 2017!
